Bowdoin College Concert Band Presents ‘…And I’ll Be In Scotland Afore Ye!’

Bowdoin’s John P. Morneau will conduct the concert band in a program entitled “…and I’ll be in Scotland afore ye!” featuring music based on the folk song tradition of Scotland with works by composers Malcolm Arnold, Julie Giroux, Percy Grainger and others.

  1. Dear Prof. Morneau, I want to thank you on behalf of David Morrison’s family here in Texas. I am David’s maternal, doting grandmother. I have been attending David’s concerts, listening to him practice on his bassoon while I talked to his mother on the phone, and enjoying every minute of his musical growth since his sixth grade. The live streaming of the concert helps to fill in the void created when David left for Bowdoin. Most of our family tuned in, including great aunts, grandmothers and grandfathers, cousins, and probably the next door neighbors. We enjoyed the excellent concert, and I especially appreciated your informative program which added to the depth of the music. Again, thank you for the live stream(we would buy CD’s, too, if they were available) which allowed us to participate in the concert. We look forward to upcoming concerts and will be enjoying them here in Texas.

  2. An excellent program and performance, especially the timpani and percussion (my instruments). I wish there was a concert band when I was at Bowdoin. I was principal bass drum and then conductor of the marching band (all 20 of us) my senior r year.

I have continued music as an avocation and have been principal timpanist and assistant conductor of Atlanta Georgia’s Callanwolde Concert Band (a fine all-volunteer community band) for many years.I do have three performances on Youtube which you can find by putting “Robert Meehan” in the Youtube search engine.

Several of the pieces on your program were unfamiliar to me. Please email or mail me a copy as CCB might consider putting on a Scottish-themed concert. Our next one in March is English themed but will be one not including a lot of the standards such as Holst, Grainger, etc.

Pkease let me know about your concerts and the glee club concerts too if they are webcast. Best wishes for your continued success.
